Fresh Water Fishing

Shelter Cove Lodge is located on the third largest island in the United States and within the Tongass National Forest – the nation’s largest. Miles of both paved and primitive roads traverse the forest on Prince of Wales Island providing easy access to areas that afford world class hunting and fresh water fishing opportunities.

The lodge can arrange for your transportation by land, air or sea to any of a hundred different streams, rivers and lakes on or off the island.  Most folks check river conditions with our guide staff, grab a Forest Service map and head out by car unguided.   Several easily accessible rivers and creeks are just a short drive from the Lodge.

Mid April to early June is a great time to catch the spring runs of Steelhead. Many like the action provided by the late summer-fall runs of Pink and Silver Salmon and a later run of Steelhead.  Trout are abundant year around.

The Lodge is perfectly set-up for the spring and fall fresh water fisherman. All ten of our double occupancy rooms are private and furnished with 2 beds, large bath, desk, TV, coffee, microwaves, refrigerators and telephones. Daily maid service and free wireless Internet are also provided.

Some of our summer saltwater fishermen find that they can arrange their travel schedule in such a way as to fish on arrival and departure days and ocean fish the other three days at no additional expense.  We do have a limited stock of spinning gear you may borrow or bring your own fly gear.

Shelter Cove Lodge is an equal opportunity provider operating in the Tongass National Forest under a Special Use Permit with the U.S. Forest Service, USDA.
